Museum exhibits in DC offer free entertainment

Yesterday I went on an outing with my mom to the National American Indian Museum. The Museum is currently featuring an exhibit about up incoming skate boarders in Indian Country and the ways that Indian country is starting to or could start to influence skate boarding. Yesterday, however there was an added exhibit to the array of skateboards, photographs and videos in the museum.

Several skate boarders from three different tribes were invited to come to Washington DC and skateboard inside the museum. These skateboarders' ranged in age from about 15 to 7 and all different skill levels too.

Even for people who aren't that interested in skateboarding it is still a fun and unique event to check out.
Other fun DC events:
The Folk life festival is currently happening on the National mall too. This is the kind of annual event that everyone should go to once. There is a variety of food sold and exhibitors who teach and sell jewelry and other crafts. There is also live music. The great thing about the folk life festival is that there is a new theme every year to highlight art music food and other aspects of different nationalities.

Eastern Market

The Eastern Market reopened today in South East DC. Although it took a little bit longer to find it, because we drove, instead of taking the metro conveniently located right in the center of the market. Once you get there though there are a lot of tables set up to shop and look around.

Markets are a window shopper's dream. Scarves imported from India, dresses and bags hand made and designed by local designers. Then there's the food. At least a dozen tables were set up with fresh produce; watermelons, strawberries, blueberries, peaches and so much corn. And that's just outside. Inside the building are rows and rows of meats, cheeses and pastas to buy all leading up to the greatest items you could ever find in a market. Ice cream and candy.

Now that the market is open again it is open every weekend, and there are always new people coming to the market to sell there products. It really is an event that never gets old.

Don't live in the DC area? Check around your town for Farmers Markets and other outdoor markets. In the summer Farmers markets usually happen once a week in every city all over the country. Probably wouldn't be quite as big of a deal as DC but its always fun time.

slurpees and swimming pools

I happen to live in a very suburban area. Within my little suburban bubble are housing developments. Little boxes on a hillside that all look just the same... just like the song says. One of the benefits of living in these developments is that I have a pool membership and the pool is only a very short walk away.

The benefit of living in suburbia is that you can always depend on a 7-11 to be open and close by. As promised I am bringing ideas of things to do that dont involve a lot of money. Apa
rently the lastest slurpee flavor is Bumble Bee blast. I havent tried it yet but if its called bumble bee blast I dont see how it could be bad.

If you don't have a pool membership, I strongly reccomend looking into it. And really who doesn't like crushed ice with flavored syrup in it?

Intro

I am twenty two years old, I have a Bachelors Degree in Journalism but I am currently without a steady flow of cash, as I am currently um-employed. Despite this very depressing fact, it has been suggested to me by everyone I know, including possible employers that I do something fun to enjoy myself in between college graduation and my dive into the real world.

When you are me, however, that is easier said than done. Without a job, and therefore, without money my only option is to borrow money from my parents, who by the way i currently live with, because of the fact that I have no job and money. The object of this blog is to bring insight to anyone out there who, like me, is struggling to find something fun to do without abusing the privilege of having money handed to you on a regular basis.

Every time I do something fun and spend little to no money it will be blogged about on this site. Hopefully the ideas I come up with will spark ideas in those of you that come across my writing.
